The Great Con-Junction Review 2025
There once was a prophecy … that there would be a gathering .. of Muppets and men, of those who could control life with just a single hand … but if you meet them … make sure they have washed the hands before you shake them cause … well you don’t want to know where they stick them.
Today was that day .. the day of the Great Con-Junction.
This was a weekend event but I only attended the Sunday so I can’t comment much on day 1 but I’ve only heard positives… and spoiler this will be a positive review.
I arrived about 10 and was a short but quick queue to get in, the first thing I noticed was the size. It wasn’t massive but not small. It was a nice space out room with a nice old style locks con vibe.
The room never felt overly busy but a nice steady flow. No big lines at guests, not even the headliners. This doesn’t mean the guests were quiet , it felt more that because there were so many guests, that people were just moving about and when a guest was done with one attendee another would just slot in place. In the time I was there I never saw guests with much down time ( unless was a clash with a photo shoot or panel ) but then they would fill up again.
I didn’t get any photo shoots but from what I saw / heard all ran smoothly and came out well.
One guest - I won’t be naming as that’s not what this is about - they were charging a premium for certain items . Which is usually just figures or Funkos but this time it was DVDs and posters. Someone spoke to the organiser who spoke to the guest and resolved that posters wouldn’t be classed as premium. It’s nice to see an organiser stand up to the guest and the agreement made unlike some who let the guest do what they want on the day.
Back to the guests :
The main guest for me was Dave Goelz the great gonzo himself. Was the main reason for me to attend and he was very sweet. Happy to complete the auto I wanted and got a selfie for my collection.
Steve Whitmire- this was the 3rd time meeting him. Very nice guy and talked about how Rizo is one of his fave roles as he was the originator and he could play more wise ass than the clean cut Kermit he usually played . We spoke about Mike Quinn and how he was great to work with and showed me one of his behind the scenes images with Mike’s arm in shot.
Toby Phillpot- spoke about how he worked Jabba the Hutt in Star Wars and the process of Practical affects
Brian Fround - a brief meet but was engaging
Debra Golez- brief chat about her role in muppets treasure island and she gave out a free auto and selfie which was cute. She was promoting her book but has sold out of all her copies which was great.
There was a nice selection of props to have photos with, the quality to them items was really great. Def love to see more of these at a future event. One of the guests had the actual shard of crystal from the movie which was good to see and it was bigger than I expected . A shame as my pockets were too small.
Overall it was a good fan friendly event with most prices low and the occasional free selfie . It’s felt so much like the olden days and was just a nice feel from the event. Was also one of the business smaller events I’ve seen in some time. Good to see the smaller and technical roles getting more recognition and not all about headliners and lead cast.
Big shout out to all the crew and volunteers who were all very friendly and helpful … even the handler for Dave … who didn’t tell me to make sure she got some attention … honest.
The only negative would be that they didn’t allow you to take photos at some guests tables - which I like as adds to the memories of who have met and although the auto and photos were decent prices the entry was a bit high . This is just how things can be for smaller events with costs to cover but I know it was a factor for some to attend.
Let’s hope they continue with more of these randomly themed events
A solid 9/10
